About
the Comforting Words Site When those around us face tough
times, we often find ourselves at a loss for words. We may fear we
will say the wrong thing and stay away or, we may hurt someone
unintentionally by saying or doing the wrong thing. Loss is very
isolating and everyone needs support if they are to fully grieve and
recover.
Comforting Words was created to help you help others who are
facing difficult experiences, loss, and grief. You won't have to be
afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing. You will read real-life
examples of the types of things that helped others through their
grief and creative ways you can provide help, support, and comfort.
You'll also find lists of things you should avoid saying so you
won't hurt someone already
experiencing loss.
Comforting Words is a companion resource to "How to Say It When
You Don't know What to Say." The book provides suggestions on oral,
written, and nonverbal communications for anyone dealing with the
full range of life cycle losses and experiences including: illness,
death of an adult, death of a child, birth of a stillborn or death
of a newborn baby, suicide, infertility, miscarriage, death of a
pet, mental illness, separation, divorce, job loss, adoption,
physical disability, violence, terrorism, natural disasters, legal
or criminal problems, financial difficulties, personal
disappointments, and caregiver responsibilities. The site provides
more anecdotal material to help you help others.
